Concerns About Picture
Main Street Redesign
We are a group of city residents and business owners that has been analyzing the Picture Main Street Design. We see some serious flaws and gaps in the design. We are Northampton residents, parents, urban planners, economists, building and business owners, disability advocates, program designers, cyclists, educators and more. We have all read the city’s FAQ page and many questions remain. We are asking for a pause and real community input on a project that affects us all.
Lack of Consideration for Alternative Proposal
Attorney John DiBartolo’s presentation on the alternative redesign for Main Street was presented to Northampton City Council. It was given no consideration. In fact, it excited an angry and accusatory outburst from Chair Nash, and there was no discussion.
Community Support for Change
A Residents' Petition with Change.org asking the City to reconsider the accessibility layout garnered over 2,000 signatures.
A Practical and Improved Solution
We believe the amended Alternative 1B plan presented here addresses many of the serious and significant issues regarding parking, accessibility, safety, the environment, and logistics that remain unresolved in the current redesign plan for Picture Main Street.
